Motema Music's Jana Herzen noted the role Cary played in the label's development in this Billboard Magazine feature:
What did the signing of Gregory Porter in 2009 do for Motéma?
He really put us on the map. My publicist, Cary Goldberg, had a friend, Paul Ewing, who was Gregory’s manager. He brought him to this office. Hearing him sing, I knew he was a man with a soul that was super deep. We recorded Water in 2010, which earned our first Grammy nomination in 2011. Then his next album, Be Good, was also nominated for a Grammy.

Throughout the years, our work with high profile companies such as Microsoft and Entertainment Cruise Productions, record labels such as JVC Music and Motema Music, and a host of both established and emerging artists such as Miami Sound Machine, KISS, and Gregory Porter has allowed us to develop a wide range of expertise and extensive industry contacts upon which to draw as appropriate to each campaign.
Our entertainment industry work has ranged from Pamela Des Barres’ groundbreaking debut memoir I’m With the Band to the award-winning film Heaven’s Floor. In the music industry, we have worked with labels, concert promoters, and independent artists in a variety of music genres, particularly jazz and world music although historically we’ve also represented rock and R&B artists and singer/songwriters. We have also worked with Entertainment Cruise Productions, acting as the liaison between the company and its media and industry partners for two cruises: Blue Note at Sea and The Jazz Cruise.
While at JVC, we also launched the highly successful XRCD series, an audiophile sub-label that offered remastered and re-manufactured classic releases by artists as diverse as Tina Turner, Steve Miller, Miles Davis and Bill Evans.
Beginning in 2000, we began to expand our expertise into technology and business. We have worked with Microsoft as well as with Homegrocer.com, and Checkster, both companies on the cutting edge of their respective fields.
Since communication is at the heart of everything we do, we also offer writing and editing services, either as part of a campaign or as a stand-alone service.Throughout the years we've crafted countless bios and press releases, provided copy for marketing and promotional materials, and written or edited album liner notes, including a 125 CD World Sounds Series released by JVC Music in 1he 1990's.
